Tak Your Makkin' a knitting group which meets in the upper Cafe Bar at Mareel, has been shorlisted for a 'Most Innovative Partnership' award at the Dementia Scotland Awards.

Founded in 2012 the group is a partnership between Shetland Arts and Alzheimer Scotland. It offers the chance for people with alzheimers and their carers to meet, chat and bring their work (predominently knitting). The group raises awareness of dementia, as well as providing a valuable support network for members.

Bryan Peterson, Head of Creative Opportunities for Shetland Arts said 'We're hugely proud to be part of this project. It’s such as splendidly simple and effective idea - folk with dementia getting out and about, together with their friends and families, and taking part in stimulating creative activities in a friendly, social environment.'

The award ceremony will take place on 21 September in Glasgow.
