To be held four to six weeks after clearance is given for large-scale gatherings, Shetland Unlocked will be a community driven festival.

It will create an open platform for artists, musicians, makers, writers and performers to deliver workshops and events that encourage us to re-engage with each other. It will showcase Shetland’s creative and maker community and give a focus to ongoing endeavours.

Free to attend across Mareel, Bonhoga and The Garrison, the festival will provide a long weekend of activities, including music, film screenings, theatre, dance, art, literature, craft, wellbeing workshops and activities for children and young people.

PAYMENTS

For performers and workshop leaders to enable us to manage the programme slots are either 20 minutes or 40 minutes. If your performance is longer than this then payment will be capped as below, for shorter performances we suggest that you buddy up with a friend to make a 20 minute slot and split the payment between you.

  • For a 20 minute performance we will pay £25 per person up to a maximum of £75 for a group performance.
  • For a 40 minute performance we will pay £50 per person up to a maximum of £150 for a group performance.

For makers who have or had been invited to showcase their work as part of ShetlandMade, we will host an exhibition of pieces in the gallery space at Bonhoga. We will not take any commission on sales of these pieces for the duration of the festival and would ask you to factor this into your pricing.

For makers and visual artists we are able to take one submission of work for an open show, which will run across spaces at Mareel, and in the lower cabinet space at Bonhoga. We will not take any commission on sales of these pieces for the duration of the festival.

For filmmakers with films of 40mins or more in length, we will be able to pay a fee of £50 for showing your work in our programme.

Participants in the HomeMade short film programme will not receive payment.

Participants in the Local Writers Night will not receive payment.

We are also unable to pay travel or accomodation costs.

We reserve the right to review and revise these Terms and Conditions up until the date of the Festival is announced publicly.
