We’re rounding off another year celebrating Shetland craft with a look south to our Orcadian neighbours for our Winter exhibition.

Browse and buy a selection of Orkney-made handcrafted jewellery, unique slip cast ceramics and prints of large-scale tapestries.

Zoe Davidson draws much of the inspiration for her unique jewellery from Orkney’s seas, coastlines and rich history. She designs and makes all her pieces, mixing traditional silversmithing techniques with more unusual processes, including fold-forming and anti-clastic raising.

Karen Duncan's jewellery designs strongly reflect her local roots in the linked south isles of Orkney. She was recently accepted into the Guild of Master Craftsmen, the first Orkney Jeweller to gain this accolade, in recognition of the artisan skills she has honed over the last 30 years.

Kerrianne Flett originally trained as a jeweller, graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in 2011, before beginning to work with ceramics. She finds that working with porcelain provides a more direct and immediate relationship between designing, making and the finished piece.

The Hoxa Tapestry Gallery is home to mother and daughter artists Leila Thomson and Jo Thomson. Both Jo and Leila’s artwork is inspired by the rhythm of life and landscape of Orkney, where they were born and brought up.

A selection of the work in the show qualifies for Own Art, allowing you to pay for handmade work in monthly installments with 0% interest. Find out more about the scheme at our desk.

Please continue to wear a face covering when moving around the gallery, and be respectful of other people's space.

We’d like to thank The Pier Arts Centre for their help with selecting the makers for this show. We're also working with The Pier and other venues across the north for Culture Collective in 2021/22 - find out more here.
