‘Trad Big Band’ participant call out: an online and in-person intensive exploring innovative new ways to play traditional and non-traditional music for young musicians, aged between 11-26 years based in Shetland.
A 2-day intensive delivered at Mareel culminating in a full Trad Big Band Concert at Mareel! You will learn new music and new approaches to music including ways to be creative with traditional approaches. These days will be fun-filled and action-packed! Providing an intense experience to play your instrument in new ways.
Experienced and well-respected musicians Harris Playfair and Margaret Robertson will be the project’s lead artists, alongside local music teachers.
The Trad Big Band will be broken into two parts: an online intense learning programme in July 2020 (watch the video here!) and an in-person intensive, ahead of a concert which will be live-streamed, at Shetland's Mareel in February 2021.
The project's participation fee has been lowered to £30 due to the financial demands during the coronavirus pandemic.
We are looking for more participants for the 2 day intensive in February 2021. Sessions will run from 1000-1700 Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February, with a concert on Sunday 14th February at 7pm.
This concert will be filmed and broadcast live. We expect the length of this to be 20-25 minutes.
If you would like to take part, please email Kathryn Spence on firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information:
- Participant name
- Guardian name
- Email contact
- What instrument do you play?
- What level do you play at? This could be a grade level. (Due to the quick timeframe of the project, we recommend you are playing at Grade 5 and above. If you are unsure of your level, please share a piece that you are currently playing that reflects your ability and we shall assess the level)
If accepted onto the project, we shall then invite you to pay the £30 project fee and will send you tune sheets for you to practice prior to February.
