We’re looking for a graphic designer or illustrator to create a fun design for an enamel badge.

The badge is being produced to distribute to practitioners participating in the Creative Islands Network (Culture Collective) project, which involves practitioners from across Shetland, Orkney and the Outer Hebrides. It will be a celebration of their achievements and an acknowledgement of their participation and hard work as part of the project.

Key elements of the work:

  • Meet with Culture Collective project manager (in-person/online) to get idea of values/aims of project and some of the activities undertaken.

  • Agree parameters of design with project manager.

  • Develop a design for a badge and share this with project manager.

  • Support/advise project manager with production spec.

Skills and experience we are looking for:

  • Ability to capture and distil ideas and values into simple, striking designs/illustrations.

  • Enthusiasm, sensitivity and understanding for inclusiveness – the project has covered a wide geographical and cultural area, with a large number of different activities and participants.

  • Independent, with understanding of constraints of design work – size, limited colours, words etc.

Key dates:

  • We would like to have a design finalised and ready to send off to be made by 9 September 2022.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own workload, in line with the needs of this project. Work can be done flexibly, provided deadlines are met. The successful candidate will report to, and be supported by, Maya Darrell Hewins, Creative Islands Network (Culture Collective) Project Manager.

Fee:

  • The fee for this freelancer designer/illustrator opportunity is £500, inclusive of expenses.

To apply, please send us:

  • A link to a portfolio of relevant work, or provide up to 6 images of relevant work.

  • A short expression of interest/cover letter (max one side of A4), telling us about your suitability and interest in the role.

Bear in mind what we are looking for and the key tasks required.

Applicants should live in, or have a strong connection to, Orkney, the Outer Hebrides or Shetland.
