Join us at Bonhoga throughout the summer to see contemporary craft made in Shetland and further afield. The four exhibitions will feature ceramics, jewellery, papercuts, woodwork, textiles, glass and basketry. Browse and buy beautiful and useful items including homeware, textiles and jewellery.

The first exhibition runs from the 19th May - 18th June and includes: Aamos Designs | The Pottery, North Roe | Lois Walpole | Karlin Anderson

Aamos Designs (Emma Geddes)

Aamos Designs is a unique and talented textile design company, who specialise in contemporary woven textiles, owned by designer Emma Geddes, a 2006 graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. Emma is based in Shetland, she works from an energetic studio at her home in Burra. She is motivated to design original woven textiles, honouring traditional techniques, updating them to create unique and luxurious hand woven fabrics, for fashion and interiors.

The Pottery, North Roe (Sharon McGeady)

Sharon McGeady is a ceramicist based in North Roe. Her pieces are hand built using templates and textures taken from items found in and around the croft.  Different textures are rolled into the iron bearing clay to bring the work alive; lace knitting, cloth and wallpaper as well as rope from a homemade keeshie.  The pieces are fired to stoneware temperatures giving them strength and durability.

Lois Walpole

Lois Walpole was born in London of Anglo Scottish heritage. She graduated from Saint Martins School of Art, London with a B.A.(Hons.) in Sculpture in 1975 and obtained City and Guilds qualifications in Basket Making from the London College of Furniture in 1982. In 2003 she completed a Doctorate in the Design Products department at the Royal College of Art in London. Since 1982 she has worked full time as an artist/ basket maker taking part in and curating national and international exhibitions, working to commission, designing for production, teaching and writing.

Karlin Anderson

Karlin returned home to Shetland in 2019 after working as a jewellery designer and maker in Glasgow and London for over 20 years. She is inspired by the stories of the people she creates pieces for, and by the rugged, beautiful landscape and rich, distinctive culture of Shetland. Karlin believes that jewellery is about memories, occasions and wonderful moments in life – her Oppenwark collection is inspired by the delicate strength of Shetland fine lace knitting and the women who create it.
