Shetland Arts is delighted to announce that the Young Fiddler of the Year competition will be held in Mareel on the 26 & 27 of April 2013.
Next year’s competition is being organised by Valerie Watt and Vaila Grant on behalf of the Shetland Folk Society. They are pleased to announce that the judges for the Young Fiddler of the Year 2013 are Maurice Henderson, Claire White, and Peter Gear.
Valerie Watt said: “I think a lot of the young fiddlers will be looking forward to the opportunity to play in the new venue - it’ll be a very memorable experience for them.”

Mareel’s Main Auditorium is designed with great acoustics in mind, and it’ll be a real pleasure to hear the young fiddlers playing in that space. There’s always a huge breadth of talent in the competition, and it’ll be an honour to welcome all the players, judges, and family and friends to Mareel in the spring of the year.”
The performances during the day on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 April are open to the public to drop in and attend for free, and the Finals/Concert in the evening on Saturday 27 April is ticketed with tickets going on sale in the New Year via Shetland Box Office in Mareel & Islesburgh, over the phone on 01595 745 555, or online at www.mareel.org
