Shetland Arts’ annual stand-up comedy show on Up Helly Aa night (Tues 28 Jan), Stand Up Helly Aa, will be hosted by Sandy Nelson with special guests Billy Kirkwood and Stu Who? this January, and will go on sale on Friday (29 Nov).

Sandy Nelson is an actor, writer and comedian from Glasgow. He put together the annual Stand Up Helly Aa with Shetland Arts five years ago and has compered all but one of them. You may know him best as Chris The Postie in BBC Scotlands Still Game or you may have seen him on the Yell Sound Ferry eating a Kit Kat (when the vending machine works.) He had the privilege of living in Baltasound on Unst for four and a half years and retains happy memories. He has now returned to his Sooth Mooth roots but is happy to be back on The Auld Rock having a gaff.

Billy Kirkwood is one of the UK’s most watchable and versatile comics, with a loveable on-stage presence and an uncanny ability to make almost any topic funny that has won him awards. He regularly performs to packed out clubs, venues, festivals and events all across the UK as an act. He’s supported some massive names in comedy on tour including Rhod Gilbert, WWE's Mick Foley and William Regal, Daniel Sloss, Police Academy’s Michael Winslow and comedy superstars Tim Minchin, & Jim Jefferies in front of 5000 screaming fans at this year’s Rockness. Billy Kirkwood is one of the hardest working and passionate men in comedy today someone to keep your eye on, cause who knows what he’ll do next!
