Christmas Exhibition, Bonhoga Gallery 19 Nov – 23 December 2010
Line and form are the themes of this year’s Christmas exhibition at Bonhoga Gallery, which opens to the public with an evening event on Thursday 18th November from 7.30 – 9pm.
Collections of work have been brought to Shetland from studios and designers from throughout the UK, to compliment that which has been chosen from some of Shetland’s most creative artists and makers. The resulting exhibition is designed to reflect and promote its name – Sprickle an’ Peester –to wriggle and squeal with pleasure and delight.
Jane Matthews, one of the team behind the organisation of this year’s show said, ‘we have a brilliant range of work on show with a focus on contemporary, crisp design from a range of specialist makers. From computer-cut wood to pewter and glass to felt and porcelain, there is something special for everyone’.
There will be an exclusive new range of jewellery from Helen Robertson, new bags from Donna Smith, textile work from Andrea Williamson and Suzanne Shearer and new work in porcelain from Jen Hadfield.
Two-dimensional work has been chosen from local artists Paul Bloomer, Joyce Wark and Kristi Cumming, with photographs from Dave Donaldson and prints form the burgeoning studio of Co:Lab.
This work has been selected to sit alongside that of over 30 of Britain’s most interesting artists and makers, from the patterned textiles of Tait and Style in Orkney to hand-made porcelain lighting from Meryl Till in Bristol and a whole spectrum of work in between.
And to make this year’s Christmas experience that bit more inviting the gallery, shop and café will be open until 8pm on the 1st, 8th and 15th December.
