We're looking forward to hosting Shetland Story Slam on Saturday 22 November, run by Liz Musser and Ruth Oliver and funded by the Creative Shetland Commissioning Fund. The event is the first of its kind to be held in Shetland, inspired by the award-winning Moth storytelling events, first held in New York City 25 years ago.

Shetland Story Slam will be focusing open-mic, true, personal storytelling. Shetland has a rich storytelling tradition, which lends itself perfectly to this kind of event - gathering together to share and listen to stories in-person connects our community and celebrates the diversity and commonality of our experiences.

Come along as an audience member or put your name forward to tell a story. The theme for the night is ‘place’. It could be a story about the time you felt out of place, or the time you were in the right place at the right time. Maybe it’s about when you finally put your nemesis in their place, or you got up the nerve to ask, “your place or mine?” Or, your story could be about some other place entirely…

The story should be:

  • Personal – you are the main character
  • True
  • Connected to the theme of ‘place’
  • 5 minutes max
  • Told without notes

Those interested in being a storyteller at the event can fill out this form: https://forms.gle/L99FCX8aJBehuJRP8

Any questions can be emailed to [email protected].

Tickets for Shetland Story Slam cost £5.50/£3.30 (includes 10% booking fee) and are available to purchase online here, in-person at the Box Office in Mareel, or by calling on 01595 745 500 during opening hours of 10am-9pm, Tuesday - Sunday.
