We are thrilled to announce the return of Shetland Noir, the islands’ celebrated crime fiction literature festival, taking place from 11th - 14th June 2026 at Mareel. The festival will once again bring Shetland’s unique voice to the global stage of crime writing, with a programme packed full of author talks, workshops, panel discussions and special events.

Shetland Noir celebrates Shetland’s significant place in international crime fiction and Ann Cleeves OBE, award-winning author and creator of the iconic Shetland series, will be returning as our patron.

Shetland’s own queen of crime, Marsali Taylor, will be joining Ann in curating the 2026 programme, ensuring an unforgettable weekend for crime fiction fans.

'I'm delighted that Shetland Arts and Marsali Taylor will be hosting Shetland Noir in 2026. I can't wait to be a part of it. A great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of my first Shetland book Raven Black. Of course that was launched in Lerwick too.'
- Ann Cleeves OBE

The 2026 edition will feature six headline authors who will be announced in the lead-up to the festival. Expect a stellar line-up of acclaimed crime writers from around the world. Past headliners have included major names in the genre such as Val McDermid, Richard Osman, Denise Mina, Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, Elly Griffiths, and Stuart MacBride.

Weekend passes will go on sale Friday 13th June 2025, with an exclusive 10% early bird discount available until Sunday 15 June 2025.
