The films showing this weekend are American Pie: Reunion (15) and Marvel Avengers Assemble (12a).

Marketing Officer Lisa Ward said: “This is a very exciting time for Shetland Arts: we’re working hard behind the scenes to put together a great programme of film for the opening of the Mareel and very much looking forward to providing a wide selection of excellent cinema for the Shetland public 7 days a week, 2 to 3 screenings per day, year-round. We are very pleased with the success that Films @ The Garrison has had over the years and the last screenings will be a memorable event for us.”

American Pie: Reunion will show on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 15-17 June, at 8.30pm. The film once again stars Jim and the guys, thirteen years after they graduated High School, and have all moved on and have adult responsibilities. Jim and Michelle are married with a young son, Oz is a successful sports presenter with a supermodel girlfriend, Kevin is married and working as an architect, Stifler works in an investment firm and Finch appears to have gone missing. The gang are invited to a high school reunion where they each try and shake themselves out of the ruts they’ve found themselves in, and relive the greatest days of their lives.

The new smash-hit Marvel Avengers Assemble will show on Friday 15 June at 5pm and on Saturday and Sunday 16 and 17 June at both 1.30pm and 5pm. The blockbuster starts with the Earth being threatened by Thor’s evil brother Loki, and Nick Fury, the Director of the international peacekeeping agency S.H.I.E.L.D., is forced to revive the Avengers Initiative. Unfortunately, Earth’s mightiest heroes are neither willing nor able to play nicely or join the team. However needs must, and Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk reluctantly assemble to save humanity and pull the world back from the brink of disaster. The film stars Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth.

Tickets are £6 (£4 concessions) and available from Shetland Box Office at Islesburgh Community Centre, 01595 745555, online at or on the door.

Shetland Arts would also like to acknowledge Islesburgh Trust for its work in putting together the very first film programmes in The Garrison Theatre.
