Shetland Arts are calling out for young musicians to take part in the Trad Big Band! This online and in-person intensive, supported by The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo through Creative Scotland, will explore innovative new ways to play traditional and non-traditional music for Shetland based young musicians aged 11-26yrs. The online programme will run in July 2020, culminating in a video collaboration, followed by meeting up in person in February 2021 for an intensive course, ahead of a concert live-streamed from Mareel.

Led by experienced and well-respected musicians Harris Playfair and Margaret Robertson, alongside local music teachers, the course is open to all 11-26 year old Shetland musicians - drummers, bassists, brass players, fiddlers, guitarists, percussionists, pianists…. the more the merrier! The programme promises fun and action-packed days learning new music and new approaches to music, including ways to be creative with traditional approaches. Shetland Arts and Creative Scotland recognise that the pandemic has caused extra financial demands on many families, therefore the participation fee has been lowered to only £30 for the whole project.

Places can be booked on the Trad Big Band online through the Shetland Arts box office here.
