We're roaring with excitement for this announcement!

Later this month, we will once again be teaming up with the Shetland Foodbank for two special charity film screenings, this time with screenings of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park to coincide with Mareel’s season of celebrating the director’s 80th birthday this year.

These screenings work by customers bringing their donations of non-perishable food items (or money donation) to the cinema and exchanging them for a ticket to the screening of your choice. Donations will be accepted from Tuesday 17 March if customers would prefer to pick up their ticket in advance, or they can simply turn up and donate on the night. Then all that's left to do is enjoy the movie while helping support our community - contributions will go directly to The Shetland Foodbank to help those in need.

Shetland Arts’ Sales and Marketing Manager Tessa Huntley, said about the collaboration, “After the incredible response to our first Foodbank screening where we received 450kg of donations received, we’re excited to be doing it again with another classic that deserves the big screen, Jurassic Park. The generosity shown by our audiences last time was fantastic, and we’re hoping this next screening will be just as successful and we can make more donations.

Screenings:

  • Saturday 21 March, 5pm (Screen 2)

  • Thursday 26 March, 6pm (Screen 1)

Across the two previous charity screenings of Back to the Future in November last year, just over 100 customers brought in donations, with the total amount donated coming in at almost 450kg (which can feed around 30 people for a week).
