Sharon Shannon, Ireland’s best known button box player is set to play Mareel on Tuesday 6 September.

Shannon has recorded and toured with a who’s who of the Irish and Global Music Industry, including Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Steve Earle, Bono and many more. She is known for combining traditional Irish tunes with many other styles including reggae, country and bluegrass. No stranger to Shetland as a solo artist, her latest visit will also feature a 4 piece line up made up of esteemed traditional Irish musicians Jim Murray (guitar), John Reagan (fiddle) and Alan Connor (piano).

She is currently working on a new album for release in 2017 and while in Shetland will work with local fiddlers on a track that will be included on the upcoming album. The track will be performed and recorded and filmed as part of the show. A group of Shetland fiddlers are being brought together by Maurice Henderson, of Fiddlers Bid’ and Haltadans.
