The Proclaimers, one of Scotland’s most popular bands, are set to play the Clickimin Centre, in Lerwick on Saturday 29 August, 2009.

The concert is part of a string of international dates to promote their eighth studio album “Notes & Rhymes” released on 15 June and the single “Love Can Move Mountains” released 8 June that has been receiving extensive airplay on national and international TV and radio.

Twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid, who were brought up in Auchtermuchty, Fife, front the band. They are best known for their hits “I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, “Letter From America” and “I'm on My Way” which was featured in the film Shrek.

The Proclaimers last visited Shetland in 2003, playing to a sold out Clickimin Centre. Proclaimer Charlie Reid said, “We are very excited to be coming back to Shetland, we have very fond memories of our previous visit to the Clickimin Centre and are looking forward to a great night and to seeing some old faces and some new.”

The concert is being organised by Edinburgh based promoters Regular Music and Shetland Arts. Bryan Peterson, Shetland Arts Music Development Officer said “We’re thrilled to announce the Proclaimers are making the trip north and we’re very happy to be working with Regular Music, one of the biggest promoters of live music in Scotland. The Proclaimers are an excellent live band that appeal to folk of all ages so it’s sure to be a brilliant night”

The concert is in association with the Shetland Blues Festival, which is happening the same weekend. The festival committee have organised the support act for the concert, Bex Marshall, a singer songwriter with a country tinged blues-rock style who is “delighted” to be on the bill with the Proclaimers.

Peterson added “The Proclaimers’ concert has been timed so that folk leaving the Clickimin Centre can head down to the Lerwick Legion in time for the Blues Festival’s Saturday night gig”

Tickets for the Proclaimers concert, costing £25, will be on sale from 9am Saturday 20 June at the Shetland Box Office, Islesburgh Community Centre - 01595 745555
