Artist Sarah Hopfinger will be performing in Mareel on Friday 10 May at 7:30pm, with her touring show Pain and I - a bold and intimate exploration into chronic pain experience which unashamedly celebrates the rich complexities of living with pain.

Layering playful choreography, experimental dance, intimate autobiographical text and original classical music composition by Alicia Jane Turner, Hopfinger asks: ‘what can pain teach us?’ in this powerful, honest, and compelling solo performance. Audiences are invited to reflect on what it means to care for our bodies, ourselves, and each other in times of personal and collective pain.

The Pain and I world premier took place at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at Summerhall with Made in Scotland 2022. The work has since been shown at international festivals and venues, such as Festival Quartier Danses (Canada), The Roundhouse, The Place, Dundee Rep, Dance Base and Tramway

Tickets for Pain and I cost £10 and are available to purchase online here, in-person at the Box Office in Mareel, or by calling on 01595 745 500 during opening hours of 10am-9pm, Tuesday - Sunday.
