With the rise of musical favourites such as Pitch Perfect, Wicked, Hamilton and Six, Voice Notes aims to gather young people together to sing. Voice Notes' emphasis will be on listening, learning aurally and having fun together. No previous experience is required and there's no need to be able to read music - just bring your voice and some enthusiasm!
The focus of Just Sing! is on enjoyment and fun - singing will be done in a song circle, learning songs by ear, in a call and response format. No need to read music or to perform at any point, just join in with the voices around you. To end each session, the group will have time for socialising in Mareel’s Cafe Bar with tea/coffee.
Both workshops will take place on Thursdays:
- Voice Notes at 4:30pm – 5:30pm (aimed at young people aged S1 – S6)
- Just Sing! at 6:30pm - 8pm (aimed at adults aged 16+)
Workshops can be booked weekly, but for participants who know they would like to join the whole 5-week block, it is recommended to book classes in advance to secure your space.
Shetland Arts’ Director of Creativity and Impact, Catriona Macdonald, said, “These workshops are a great chance to meet new folk and enjoy group singing to uplift mood and have musical fun in a safe, welcoming space.”
Tickets for Voice Notes cost £5.50 (including 10% booking fee) and tickets for Just Sing! cost £2 (no booking fee). Tickets are available to purchase online from tickets.shetlandarts.org, in-person at the Box Office in Mareel, or by calling on 01595 745 500 during opening hours of 10am-9pm, Tuesday - Sunday.
