Shetland Arts’ popular Life Drawing sessions are returning to Mareel this winter, and we are looking for a model. The sessions have been running successfully at Mareel for the past three years, with artists of all abilities enjoying the chance to practise drawing a real life nude model. The informal classes encourage participants to relax and enjoy their art, working with their own materials on poses led by the model.

Previous life models have included Floortje Robertson Matthew, who said this about her experience: “Although I found it daunting at first, I soon relaxed and started to enjoy the process. This was really because of the artists who came along each week – it’s a really relaxed atmosphere and, not being someone who draws, I found it really interesting to see their pictures develop.”

This year a tutored element has been introduced to the classes. A tutored session is planned for the first session to introduce the concepts of life drawing and the series will culminate with a full day workshop including a tutored element to allow participants to have the opportunity to complete a full sketch of the model. Classes run from 7-9pm on Wednesday evenings in Mareel from 8 November – 6 December with the full day of workshops on Saturday 9 December from 10am-3pm.

Tickets are available through Shetland Arts Box Office. Book now at tickets.shetlandarts.org, over the phone on 01595 745500 or in person at Mareel. The full set of sessions can be booked together for a discounted price.

Potential models, of any age, size and gender, should email [email protected] to apply by Wednesday 18 October. There is a fee attached to the post.
