Homemade is an annual event where local filmmakers are invited to submit their short films, with no rules other than they must be four minutes (or less) in length. Curated by SADA volunteers Kathy Hubbard, Cara McDiarmid and Logan Nicolson, this year’s event squeezed in a fantastic 33 short films into a 2-hour run-time, making it the biggest selection of films yet in Homemade history.
Kathy said, “The Homemade Team were delighted with the number of young folk submitting films. It was also lovely to see films made by our regular cohort. There was a definite feeling of celebration in the air, and the sense of mutual support and appreciation amongst audience and film makers that always makes this annual event so special.”
Four awards were up for grabs: the Audience Award, the Judge’s Award and two Awards for Most Effective Use of Dialect, presented by Shetland ForWirds. All the winners were present at Saturday’s screening to receive their prize, except Josiah Naquin, who aptly had to miss seeing his film on the big screen as he has just started studying at Los Angeles Film School.
