Klub Revolution and Shetland Arts are delighted to present the original line-up of the Happy Mondays in Mareel, Shetland, on Saturday 15 December 2012 at 7.30pm. This concert is the only Scottish date on their upcoming European tour and, by far, the most intimate show that the band will perform in the UK, since reforming earlier this year.

Tickets go on sale today (Tuesday 11 September) at 1pm from Shetland Box Office. You can buy your ticket in person from the reception at Mareel, over the phone on 01595 745 555, or online from www.shetlandboxoffice.org. Tickets cost £50 and are limited to a maximum purchase of 4 per person. Over 18s only.

Happy Mondays are one of the most influential bands to emerge from the 1990s Britpop era, whose turbulent history has seen them split and reform several times. The 2012 incarnation features the original line-up of front man Shaun Ryder, his brother Paul on bass, Gary Whelan (drums), Rowetta (backing vocals), Mark Day (guitar), Paul “PD” Davis (keyboards) and dancer Mark “Bez” Berry.

Klub Revolution is a music promoter run by Shetlander, Alan Mcleod. He said: “It’s [the Happy Mondays] only date on their European tour and they said it’s the one that is really standing out for them… They are absolutely looking forward to it, and they are very impressed with the venue and its technical specifications.”

Shetland Arts runs Mareel, the UK’s most northerly music, cinema and creative industries centre. Situated in the prominent quayside area in Lerwick, next to the Shetland Museum and Archives, Mareel has a live performance auditorium, two cinema screens, rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, education and training spaces, a digital media production suite, broadcast facilities, and a café bar with free high speed wi-fi internet access. Mareel provides Shetland with a year round programme of film, live music and other performance events.

Shetland Arts Development Agency is the leading arts agency in Shetland, promoting a year round programme of music, craft, theatre, literature, visual arts, dance and film events; the agency also runs the Garrison Theatre in Lerwick and Bonhoga Gallery in Weisdale.

Gwilym Gibbons, Director of Shetland Arts, said: “Shetland Arts is delighted to be working with local promoter Klub Revolution to put on this excellent event. This opportunity demonstrates Mareel’s potential, as a quality venue in a unique location, to attract renowned acts to Shetland as they tour Europe.”
