From 5th of May, a 10% processing fee will apply to all tickets purchased (cinema or events) and whether booked online, by phone or in person. This replaces the previous flat £1 booking fee.
We know there was frustration about the old system, particularly from those who live out with Lerwick and couldn’t visit in person to avoid the fee. This new approach is designed to be consistent for everyone, no matter where you live or how you book.
Cinema tickets will now cost less for most customers.
For most cinemagoers, this change will result in lower ticket prices. Under the previous system, a £1 booking fee was added per ticket. With the introduction of the 10% processing fee, tickets costing under £11 will now incur a smaller fee, while those over £11 will see a slightly higher charge.
Why the change?
Nobody enjoys raising their prices but as with everything, the costs in processing tickets have increased. There are fees for payment systems, online security, banking, ticketing software and staff time. We heavily subsidise the cinema and events with our funding, however, this doesn’t cover the increase in processing costs.
