Read the latest update on Bonhoga's refurbishment, following another visit last week.

This is now my third visit to the site. It also happens to be the first where we didn't have glorious weather - who said anything about summer?

Comparing last month's photos to this month, again there is a very visible difference as the work continues inside the building, most noticeably in the stairwell which has now been insulated (last time it was stripped right back to the stonework). The walls in the shop and the back office have now been plastered, with the gallery walls not far behind. The new heating system has also been installed and the toilets are in the midst of their makeover.

As always, huge credit goes to JDC Shetland, who are doing a fantastic job on site. I’m genuinely excited to see the refurbishment taking shape and can’t wait for Bonhoga to reopen.

Speaking of which…

If you’re just as excited about the reopening - and you’re a recent graduate - we've got a brilliant opportunity that could be right for you. We’re currently recruiting for a Creative Graduate to join our team. The role focuses on developing a business plan for Bonhoga and shaping a new retail strategy for Shetland Arts. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, you can find out more and apply here. (Applications close Friday 11 July at midnight.)

Stay tuned for the next update in August!

Bonhoga's refurbishment is being led by née gibson architects and supported by funding from the Shetland Charitable Trust Capital Grants Scheme.
