Just in case you are wondering, the building going up at the moment is actually only the site offices that will only be there for the duration of the build. It’s not the Mareel building itself! This small building is on the corner of the car park area of the Mareel site. DITT Construction Ltd started pre contract preparations last week, making sure they have a suitable and serviced office base close to the main site up and running ready for when construction gets fully underway.

Building work on the Mareel building proper will start at beginning of July, marked by the arrival of the piling contractor who will make a start on the foundations.

There is]]> Ready for construction activity to start on Mareel (Shetland’s new music, cinema and education venue) at the end of this month, 60 North TV has a lunched a new webcam feed called Mareel TV available from the Shetland.org site. Just follow the link for webcams at the top of their home page.

There is also a 8 second stop motion film of the site being created from this feed – you can watch progress so far by clicking on button (1) in the Mareel TV screen.
