‘LK 243 UnderSail’ (Artist Residency phase)
as part of Calouste Gulbenkian Scottish Islands Project & Scotland’s Year of Island Cultures

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Visual Artist to carry out a residency on board The Swan during the Tall Ships Races 2011. The residency has been devised by a partnership between Shetland Arts, The Swan Trust and Taigh Chearsabhagh in North Uist and underwent a Research and Development phase during 2010 conducted by Artist, John Hartley. The project has recently been successful in obtaining funding for the Artist Residency from Creative Scotland in partnership with Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Scotland’s Islands.

The first part of the residency will begin on board The Swan in Waterford on 30 June 2011 and conclude at the end of the Races in Halmstad on 8 August 2011. The second part of the Residency will be land based and take place in varying studio spaces in Shetland and North Uist between 8 August and 10 September 2011.

It is anticipated that the residency will lead to a presentation of work by the Artist in Residence which will later be shown in Shetland and North Uist.

Shetland Arts is looking for an established Visual Artist to carry out the above residency.
