Fiddle Frenzy day packages for tuition in Shetland fiddle, guitar and Creative Fringe classes are now on sale. Classes will run Monday 1st - Friday 5th August, based in Lerwick on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday; Sandwick on Tuesday and Baltasound on Friday. A total of 10 fiddle tutors will teach across the week, including Debbie Scott, Catriona Macdonald and Andrew Gifford. Guitar classes are led by Brian Nicholson and Kris Drever.

Creative Fringe classes offer a range of art and craft activities, including artist studio tours, painting, knitting, linocuts and ‘creepie’ making. Tutors include Amy Fisher, Ana Arnett and Barbara Johnson.

Full week packages and tickets to each of the evening events are still available to buy. A recent addition to the programme is the recording of a special Frenzy addition of ‘Shetland’s Larder’, BBC Radio Shetland’s programme hosted by Eunice Henderson and Jane Moncrieff, that will feature a ‘cook-off’ between Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham. This will take place prior to their concert on Thursday 4th August, limited to concert ticket holders only with start time moved to 6.30pm.

Other concert highlights include the opening Sunday night event titled ‘Da Farther Ben Da Wylcomer’, a Shetland phrase meaning ‘come in, you’re very welcome’. This informal-style cabaret layout at Mareel will provide an introduction to the Shetland fiddle tradition, and a look back through it’s history with curators Eunice Henderson and Claire White. Performers include South Mainland Young Fiddlers and Shetland Fiddlers Society. The evening will be followed by a dance with the Alan Nicholson Dance Band.

Tickets for all events are available to buy at Shetland Box Office. Shetland Arts are seeking volunteers to help in the running of the event - please email [email protected] for further information
