Public Opening Friday 11 September 6-7.30pm

An exhibition by five internationally recognised Scottish Danes opens next week at Bonhoga, featuring ceramics and baskets, jewellery and boxes in a diverse range of styles and materials.

On the final leg of its Scotland-wide tour, Danish Diaspora is an exploration of the Scottish landscape through the eyes of five Danish makers who have lived in Scotland for decades - from Durness to the Borders and from The Western Isles to Edinburgh.

Lilian Busch, Nickolai Globe, Mette Fruergaard, Lise Bech and Lotte Glob - all highly-acclaimed makers in their own right – have come together to present an exhibition which has been described as, “a living tradition of ancient Craft skills fused with Fine Art disciplines and striking Contemporary Design”.

Lise and Mette will be in Shetland for the opening of the exhibition on 11th September from 6-7.30pm and will be giving a free and informal talk in the gallery on Sunday 13th from 3-5pm. Everyone is very welcome to both of these events. Lise will also be leading a basket-making workshop at the gallery on Wednesday 16th September, from 5.50-8.30pm.

Running concurrently in the lower gallery is Shipping Forecast, an exhibition of work by artists and makers exploring the popular theme of weather and sea state around our shores. It will feature the work of stained glass artist Susan Wilkinson alongside printmaker Tabitha Mary and the work of local ceramicist Bill Brown. Susan will be leading a stained glass workshop at Mareel on Sunday 6th September.

Jane Matthews, Exhibition Manager at Shetland Arts explains, ‘we have another diverse, world-class exhibition showcasing high-calibre work by a fantastic range of artists, continuing what has been a great year’s programme at Bonhoga. We’re pleased to be welcoming makers to Shetland to teach their skills and inspire us with their work”.

Details of the workshops and booking is available via the Box Office: www.shetlandboxoffice.org
