Cold Hands Warm Heart: Christmas Exhibition at Bonhoga, 19 Nov – 23 Dec 2011

Public opening: 18 November, 5 – 7pm. Late night openings: Wednesdays 30 November, 7 &14 December.

Shetland Arts invites you to come in out of the cold and join the staff at Bonhoga for the opening of this year’s Christmas exhibition on 18th November from 5-7pm. Collections of work from textile artists, ceramicists, jewellers, painters, photographers and printmakers have been selected from Shetland and across the UK, bringing particular warmth to the exhibition this year. It’s an essential destination for anyone looking for an unusual, beautiful or stylish gift this Christmas.

The exhibition will run until 23rd December with three planned late night openings on 30 November, 7 and 14 December, when the gallery, shop and café will remain open until 8pm. Work on display in the lower gallery and craft cabinet can be taken at the point of sale and there will be three collection dates for work in the main gallery before the end of the show. The public can also buy gift vouchers which can be used at Bonhoga and on any other Shetland Arts’ purchases.

Jane Matthews of Shetland Arts said: “We are delighted at the range of artists we have showing work this year, particularly Maxie Bain and Ruth Brownlee. There are prints from a beautiful series of woodcuts of Shetland by Adrian Paul Metcalfe, paintings by Kirsten Hay, photographs by Chloe Garrick and a range of work by several print-makers from Orkney’.

With this year’s emphasis on colour there is a huge array of three-dimensional work from makers across the country; from Katie Almond’s quirky ceramics and Leigh Shepherd’s beautiful jewellery (made from vintage games pieces and coins) to neon satchels, bright acrylic lighting by Kirsty Shaw and reflective knitwear by Lost Values (that will ensure you are noticed while out on these dark winter nights). With classic Shetland knitwear designs, jewellery ranges to suit every taste, lighting and a few surprises, this year’s Christmas exhibition is designed to warm you to the core.

The Mill Café is also delighted to announce the launch of a new warming Winter Menu with a tempting Special’s Board. Further details to come.
