The Booth

Shetland Arts, in partnership with Wasps Artists’ Studios, Glasgow, rent artists’ living/working space in Scalloway, the ancient capital of Shetland.  The serene surroundings can be used to influence a new body of work or stimulate the senses to create a Shetland-specific, arts related project.

The Booth has been rebuilt on the site of the oldest building in Scalloway and has won several architectural awards.  Situated on the waterfront, the accommodation consists of a living space with kitchen facitlities, a shower-room suitable for disabled use, with a sleeping platform reached by a ladder. Telephone and broadband are available.

The building’s basement is a space for ‘dirty work’ with concrete walls and a flagstone floor.  There is a paved area outside with a wall directly on to the sea.

Scalloway has a post office, two general stores, a hotel, restaurants, a museum and a regular bus service to Lerwick, the main town.  The village is very picturesque and is also home to a busy harbour area, and market, home to a number of local fishing boats and the aquaculture industry.
