On this page you can find out about some of our drama initiatives and activities. Click here to read about Ignition, a joint project between National Theatre of Scotland and Shetland Arts running Oct 2012 – March 2013.
Shetland Arts presents a varied and exciting programme of drama projects and events throughout the year. We are committed to supporting and developing the skills of young people, those who are socially excluded, drama groups and enthusiastic individuals. Through drama, Shetland Arts aims to inspire, challenge and enhance the creativity of communities throughout Shetland.
SYT and YUF Theatre
Directed by John Haswell (Arts Development Officer, Drama), these companies give young people aged 12 to 21, of all abilities, the opportunity to take part in theatre productions. They produce highly original and innovative work that has been critically acclaimed and has enabled them to perform outwith Shetland.
Shetland Arts is committed to developing working partnerships with other drama groups. This includes the mentoring of individuals and the development of leadership skills in order to help groups to develop and to become self-sustaining.
In partnership with Creative Links, Shetland Arts takes visiting theatre companies into schools, including those in remote communities, to run workshops. School children throughout Shetland also get the opportunity to see a wide variety of theatre performances.
